Speed run of Super Mario Bros. 2 done on July 4 2005. Available in three versions: low quality, normal quality, and 60 fps high quality.
The only reason I decided to speedrun this was because no one had before. I had never even beat the game until I started going for the fastest time possible, which is kind of ironic if you think about it. After a few times playing the game really fast, I started to fall in love with this game, perhaps even more than the other two Super Mario Bros. games for NES.
This run is definitely improvable. I started out playing flawlessly, and as soon as I realized that, I started sucking (right about 6-1). The only reason I kept the run is because I bested my previous 7-2 personal record by about 15 seconds. That more than made up for the time I wasted by sucking hard in previous levels.
1-1 through 4-2 went flawlessly, for the most part. Nothing momentous happened. I've since tried different strategies on 1-1 and 1-2, and could probably play them both faster. 6-1 was not good. I fell in the quicksand once, but that didn't waste any real time. Then I prematurely moved to the right when falling down the pipe, anticipating the tunneling, and almost got hit, and then proceeded to do the worst job of tunneling ever seen by mankind. It hurts my eyes to watch it. 6-2 was fine, although I got hit by Birdo. 6-3 was fine, except Birdo spit three fireballs in a row, which has happened only twice before. That wasted a couple seconds. 7-1 was fine, until I fell off the ladder near the end of the level like an idiot. I was not pleased, but I guess I deserved it since I got greedy and went for the ladder jump. I got it on the second try, though. And then I couldn't fall off the freaking ledge after I killed Birdo. You might want to cover your eyes during that part, too. 7-2 went absolutely perfect, except I got hit right near the beginning. I guess I was a little excited. Wart went perfect, and he didn't destroy any of my vegetables, like he always has before. That battle was the saving grace of this run.
You might notice that I have an affinity for Toad, and you would be correct. Luigi is slightly faster on a few levels, but I like Toad and don't like Luigi. That's the only explanation I can offer for not choosing him. Hope you enjoy.
